Boskone 59 Judge’s Choice Ribbon for Ancient Dragon by Jay Trefethen

This last weekend, I went down to Boston. I attended a science fiction convention that Meredith and I often went to. It was very strange being there myself. It was stressful, but I did have a good time. Driving was the worst. Boston is not the place to be a distracted driver. I managed to get to the hotel without any accidents, so that’s the important thing. And I brought some of my art for the con art show, and won a ribbon. That was very cool. I do wish Meredith could have been there to share the experience. I visited with my Mom while down there too. She lives just outside Boston. We went to a nice restaurant, which I haven’t done in ages. So a very busy and stressful weekend. But for the most part, an enjoyable experience. There was always that undertone of sadness though, thinking how much Meredith would have enjoyed being there, and how much more fun it would have been with her. I remember the first time we went to a science fiction convention together. I took a photo of her posing with a guy dressed up as a Klingon. She is a huge Star Trek TNG fan, so she was thrilled with that. I am grateful I have memories like that.

I am a self taught artist living in Bradford, Vermont. I build furniture and create woodburning art for a living, and also create oil on canvas paintings. I sell my paintings on eBay as nightairstudios. And I sell my woodburning art locally. You can see my work at the Pompanoosuc Mills showroom in East Thetford.
